Menu from the Banquet of St. George at the Winter Palace, 1904, designed by Viktor Vasnetsov (Russian, 1848-1926),the polychrome lithograph depicting St. George slaying the dragon above Tsar Nicholas II's cipher, the order's badge, and the Imperial double-headed eagle, framed, menu 14 3/4 x 9 1/2 in.
N.B. Held annually on November 26th, the banquet honored the members of the Order of St. George. Founded by Catherine the Great in 1769, it was the highest military decoration.
