Folio, may be lacking title, with full-page engraved portrait of Sleidanus by Jacob van der Heyden (1573-1645) in his library enhanced with contemporary color, 386 pages, text not collated, printed in Fraktur in double columns throughout, in a contemporary Dutch vellum binding, defective, front board detached; [with] Montaigne's (1533-1592) Essayes, translated by John Florio (1553?-1625),London: by Sims for Blount, 1603, lacking A1 (title page),A4 (preliminary),Lll1, and Lll2 (final two leaves),divisional titles for parts two and three present, marginal annotations in a contemporary hand, with a long note at the end of the second section, some modern pencil marks, and a few red ink check marks in text, some contemporary notes slightly shaved, in defective contemporary calf, board boards detached, could be used for parts or as a reading copy, 10 3/4 x 7 in.
