Mangaia Carved Wood and Stone Ceremonial Adze, c. 19th century, the hollow-carved square shaft with geometric relief carving, the stone blade bound with plaited coir, (wood loss),dark patina, lg. 32 in.

Provenance: Through the estate of Matthew Wysocki (1920-1991),artist, photographer, professor and chairman of Dartmouth College's visual studies department (1966-1989),to the present owner by family descent, Connecticut.
