Unsigned.
Oil on canvas, 34 1/2 x 42 in. (87.6 x 106.7 cm),framed.
Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure, surface grime.

Provenance: Acquired from T.J. Blakeslee, Blakeslee Galleries, New York, 1907. A copy of the gallery invoice accompanies the lot.

N.B. The present composition is after The Mill (1645/1648) by Rembrandt van Rijn.

Retouch to l.l. quadrant as follows: long strokes of retouch in an area measuring 14 x 9 inches measured out from the left edge, a circle of retouch l.c. measuring 4 inches diameter, and an area along the lower edge measuring 4 inches across. Sky with broadly brushed areas of retouch u.c. over an area measuring 7 x 3 inches, thinly brushed areas in the sky center right, and dashes in a broken line covering 7 inces on the c.l. side. A few dashes of retouch to the windmill.

Craquelure and alligatoring to paint surfaces. Evidence of skinning more prominent int he pair of foreground figures l.l. Discolored varnish and surface grime.
