Gorham Presentation Sterling Silver Punch Bowl, Tray, and Twelve Cup Holders, Providence, Rhode Island, tray and cup holders from 1907, bowl from 1911, the circular bowl on pedestal foot, lightly hammered and cast with grape and vine borders, with two vining upswept handles, faux bois monogram "JTC," marked "A4977," lg. 20 over handles; the two-handled circular tray with very similar decoration of grapes, oak leaves, and acorns, conforming monogram, the underside inscribed "Honorable J. T. Cremer/ with the compliments of Samuel P. Colt/ December 25 1911," marked "A7214," lg. 29 over handles; twelve silver cup holders matching the tray, marked "A7213," and eight glass cups, approx. 231.7 troy oz.

N.B. The tray and cups appear to use the Martele dating system with the letters "ONV" forming a triangle. The bowl has a date cipher.
Provenance: The near-set was a Christmas gift from Colt, a politician and industrialist from Bristol, Rhode Island, to Cremer, a Dutch entrepreneur, diplomat, and politician. At the time Colt was president of U.S. Rubber and Cremer was president of the Netherlands Trading Society. Both men had interests in Southeast Asia, which may be how their paths crossed. The pieces bear Dutch tax marks for foreign-made silver.
