Description:

Tymms, William Robert (fl. circa 1860) The Art of Illuminating as Practised in Europe from the Earliest Times. London: Day and Son, 1860.
Small folio, illustrated in color throughout and gilt accents, ninety-nine full paged plates reproducing Medieval and Renaissance letters, borders, initials and other scribal manuscript decoration from the 6th to the 16th centuries, bound in ornately decorated gilt cloth publisher's covers, rebacked, leaves loose; a valuable resource for artists.
Estimate $200-300

Paper is in sound condition, but this copy was used by an artist and so many pages are loose with damage to the blank margins from hanging out of the book. The images themselves are generally unaffected by this damage.
