Marc Chagall (Russian/French, 1887-1985)

L'acrobate au violon, 1924, final state of three, edition of approximately 150, published by Vollard, printed by Louis Fort (Kornfeld, 40). Signed "Marc Chagall" in pencil l.r. Etching with drypoint on paper, plate size 16 1/4 x 12 3/8 in. (41.2 x 31.3 cm), framed.
Condition: Toning, staining, mat burn, gentle rippling, not examined out of frame.
Estimate $800-1,200

Out of the frame the sheet measures 18 5/8 x 14 3/4 in. It is taped to the facing mat with both brown paper and masking tapes along the edges on the reverse. There is a stain approximately 3 inches in diameter l.l. that has an oily appearance to it, plus scattered smaller (non-oily) stains. There is corrugation staining to the verso.
