Inscribed "Stewart Pinxt 1785" in ink in a period hand on the stretcher, with a labe
l from Julius H. Weitzner, New York and London, affixed to the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 30 x 24 3/4 in. (76.2 x 62.9 cm), framed.
Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure, skinning, varnish inconsistencies.

Provenance: A prominent Cincinnati, Ohio, collector.
N.B. The present work closely relates to a 1788 portrait of Captain MacBride formerly owned by Paul Mellon now in the Yale Center for British Art collection.
