Simka Simkhovitch (Russian/American, 1893-1949)
Gouache and charcoal on paper, 18 1/2 x 15 in. (47.0 x 38.2 cm), framed.
Condition: Paper loss and small tear to l.l. corner, small repaired tears to upper corners, pinhole u.l., nicks, wear, and minor tape remnants to edges of paper, toning, tape remnants/repairs to the reverse.
Provenance: Through the collection of Sonya Simkhovitch, daughter of the artist.
Irregular tear to u.l. corner, measuring about 1 inch overall and including a small paper loss, mended on the reverse with cellophane tape. Tear to u.r. corner with small crease, measuring 1 1/2 in overall and mended on the reverse with cellophane tape. Tear to l.l. corner measuring 1 3/4 in. overall including an area of paper loss measuring about 3/4 in. long by 1/4 inch wide, partially secured with cellophane tape. Pinhole-sized hole in paper, located in u.l. quadrant, located 1 1/2 in. in from the left and 3 1/2 inches down from the top. Sheet is hinged to backing mat in three places along the top edge.
