Mosaic Glass Window Attributed to John LaFarge (American, 1835-1910)
Mosaic art glass
Jeweled transom panel, framed, unsigned, some buckling, cane repair and cracks, approx. ht. 17, wd. 25 1/2 in.
Provenance: This LaFarge transom was part of Cornelius Vanderbilt's 5th Ave mansion, installed in 1881. It was taken out in 1893 and sold back to LaFarge, remaining with him until his death. The panel was listed in the LaFarge estate auction in 1911 as "Jewelled Panel, ht. 17, wd. 25 1/2 in." The Kraushaar Gallery purchased it, and subsequently the Weatherspoon Art Museum purchased it from them.
