Fred Pansing (New Jersey, 1844-1912)

Portrait of the U.S.S. Rhode Island (B.B.-17). Signed l.r., vessel identified on a plaque below. Oil on paperboard, 7 x 10 in., in a later molded giltwood frame. Condition: Scattered retouch to lower edge.

Note: The U.S.S. Rhode Island (B.B.-17) was built by the Fore River Shipyard, Quincy, Massachusetts. She was a Virginia-class battleship of the United States Navy, the second ship to carry her name, and was commissioned on February 19, 1906, with Captain Perry Garst in command.
