Letter of Marque. Signed "C.G. Evers" l.r. Watercolor and gouache on paper, sight size 18 1/4 x 28 1/2 in., in original frame. Condition: Very good.

Note: This painting features the privateer Prince De Neufchatel with other vessels: the Bermuda sloop Lady Hammond, the American ship Hannibal, and others off the Chesapeak, in 1814. It was commissioned by Pierre S. De Beaumont, of Manchester, Massachusetts, and titled by the artist. It is accompanied by two framed works of the same scene: a preliminary sketch for the painting, signed l.l., graphite on paper, 16 1/2 x 28 1/4, framed; and the artist's proof, no. 1 of an edition of 500 prints produced by the Greenwich Workshop, Trumbull, Connecticut, c. 1981, signed and remarqued l.r., sight size 18 1/2 x 26 in.
