Cyrillic New Testament Gospels in Brass Binding, probably Russia, mid-19th century, folio, the hinged binding over wood boards, elaborate bas relief decoration on covers, centerpiece of the Crucifixion and corner-pieces of the Evangelists on the front cover, central cartouche of the empty cross on the rear cover with metal bosses in corners, another cross and ornamental design on spine; each Gospel with woodcut frontispiece depicting corresponding Evangelist portrait, divisional headpiece, and decorated initials, text printed in red and black ink on wove paper.
