Colonial Coin Silver Porringer, Newport, c. 1740, Jonathan Clarke, maker, of typical form, with single openwork handle, monogrammed GMW, base engraved Mary Wanton, lg. 7 1/2 in., approx. 9 troy oz.

Provenance: Gideon Wanton (1693-1767), was Governor of Rhode Island 1745-47 and 1747-48. He married Mary Codman (widow of Christopher Codman), c. 1718. Mary Wanton was the daughter of Gideon Wanton.
