Provenance: Engraved to underside with owner's name, "Gordon Mendelssohn," the name of his yacht, "Quartermore," with date 1936. This bowl was part of a suite of Jensen tableware used on the vessel. Mendelssohn was a wealthy notable in Detroit, Michigan, and a patron of the arts. The Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre at the University of Michigan was built through a donation Mendelssohn's in honor of his mother.
