Continental School, 19th Century

Portrait of a Young Lady in White
Unsigned.
Oil on canvas, 44 3/4 x 32 5/8 in. (113.6 x 83.0 cm), framed.
Condition: Patch reinforcements and old repairs, retouch, craquelure with areas of paint losses and lifting, canvas deformation, surface grime.
Estimate $1,500-2,000

Tear measuring 1-1/4 inch across with paint loss located in u.r. quadrant, located 7 inches in from right side and 15 inches down from top. Craquelure with scattered flaking and losses around the sitter's head, including one on the sitter's neck and a few to the left of her neck and cheek. Horizontal stretcher bar mark with some craquelure and minor losses. Two areas of old repair marked by patches on the reverse, one at the sitter's elbow and one in the upper left quadrant. Canvas deformation along the bottom edge and in the upper corners.

Painting is in a new Guido gold leaf frame.
