Description:

William Henry Jackson (American, 1843-1942)

Upper Fire Hole, from Old Faithful. Titled within the negative, identified in text printed on the mount. Albumen print, sheet/image size 10 1/8 x 13 in. (25.8 x 33.0 cm),matted, unframed.
Condition: Staining and losses to mount (almost exclusively near the edges).

Provenance: From the collection of Austin Lamont, by family descent.

Estimate $400-600

The image is mounted on a paperboard support measuring 16 x 19 7/8 inches. This support is secured to the back mat with photo corners that have been taped in place. The mounted image was not removed from the mat for fear of putting pressure on the paperboard support. (However, it could safely and easily be removed by cutting the tape.) Therefore, we did not examine the back of the mount for inscriptions.

The image surface has scattered fine abrasions, with some spotting or accretions in the u.r. quadrant and lower center. The mount is soiled, scuffed, and stained, with loss of outer layer of paper surface along lower edge
