Description:

Glass Snuff Bottle, China, 18th century, carved in relief with Confucius riding in a boat under a magnolia tree to one side, and carved calligraphy "Kong lai zhen qin" (precious birds visit when Confucius is here) to the other, pink glass stopper, lg. 2 1/8 in.

Provenance: Sold by the Peabody Essex museum, Salem, MA, for the benefit of acquisition funds.
