Semi-military Flintlock Fowler Rifle, Steele & Warren, Albany, New York, late 18th century, 47 1/2-inch two-stage barrel with rounded front and octagonal breech divided by ring turning, mostly steel furniture including lockplate engraved with a flowering branch and marked "STEELE&/WARREN/ALBANY," turned brass ramrod pipes, carved walnut stock, steel ramrod.

Provenance: This rifle was purchased before 1963 from George Ellis of Northampton, Massachusetts. George Ellis was a Spanish American War veteran and this fowler, according to family lore, was carried by his great grandfather, a Northampton soldier during the Revolutionary War.
