Gorham Sterling Presentation Hot Water Kettle, 1871, the spherical body mounted with central bead and floral swag band, with reeding to upper and lower areas, with carved ivory and scroll handles, tap with octagonal knob and shell spout, on base with shell and scroll pierced rim and Grecian legs, engraved with presentation inscriptions, lacking lid and burner, ht. 12 in., approx. 58 troy oz.

back of body engraved: "The board of Counselors and Faculty of Ingham University to their distinguished Chancellor and his excellent wife, Rev. Dr. & Mrs. Samuel D. Burchard, in grateful recognition of their valuable services to the Institution. Le Roy, NY May 19, 1872."
