Gilt-bronze Ruyi Scepter with Jade Plaques, China, Qing dynasty, the arched body embellished with the Eight Buddhist Treasures on the front and with finely chased designs of lotus scrolls on a pearl ground on the back, the top end inset with cloud-shaped jade plaque of celadon color, the evenly-hued stone polished to a soft luster, further inset with turquoise, amber, lapis lazuli, soapstone, and other semi-precious stones in a spring scene of a prunus flower tree and rockwork, the bottom end of the scepter with a smaller jade plaque shaped into a lingzhi fungus, decorated in a similar fashion with lingzhi trees, attached with tassels via an endless knot, lg. 18 1/2, jade plaques 3 3/4 x 3 1/4, 3 x 2 in.
