Painted Floral Drawing/Reward of Merit, probably Deep Run School, Bedminster Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, c. 1840, watercolor and ink on wove paper, (creases, small tear c.r. light stains),6 1/2 x 4 1/8 in., in a period molded giltwood frame.
Literature: The drawing offered here is nearly identical to one illustrated in Buck's County Fraktur, The Bucks County Historical Society, Doylestown, Pennsylvania, 1999, p. 333. A portion of the text reads: "Several small drawings of segmented flowers, often executed in pale, thin colors can be attributed to this artist. Probably a schoolmaster, he or she seems to have intended these pictures as rewards of merit as evidenced by one example associated with the Deep Run School."
