The Last Load
Signed "Matilda Browne" l.r., identified on a presentation plaque
and on a label from the Pan American Exposition on the back of the frame.
Oil on canvas, 22 x 32 in. (55.8 x 81.2 cm), framed in a shadow box.
Condition: Canvas rippling, surface grime.

Exhibitions: The Exhibition of Fine Arts, Pan-American Exposition, Buffalo, 1901, cat. no. 526.
Estimate $5,000-7,000

A label from "PAN AMERICAN EXPOSITION" on the back of the frame lists Matilda Brown as the artist, her residence as Greenwich, Connecticut, and the owner of the painting as Dr. S.D. Powell of 12 West 40th Street.

There are canvas deformations in the four corners, and the painting could likely benefit from rekeying and a light cleaning.
