N.B. Whitaker, who maintained a studio at 65 Westminster Street in Providence, was the first painting instructor at the Rhode Island School of Design and a founder of the Providence Art Club along with Sydney R. Burleigh, Edward M. Bannister, and Charles W. Stetson.
