Description:

Three Schafer Vater Bisque Porcelain Novelty Boxes, Germany, early 20th century, unmarked, one modeled as a black boy in blue stocking cap emerging from an egg, ht. 4, and two formed as stylized crocodiles, each with a pair of a black child's legs emerging from its mouth, the lid revealing the rest of the child's body molded to interior, lg. 4 1/4 and 5 3/4 in. respectively.
Estimate $400-600

egg boy: missinf pinky finger of left hand. small flake and a few fleabites to edge of lid.
green crocodile: impressed GERMANY to one side, light, small firing line at nose, approx. 1/2"
brown crocodile: very minor rubbing to paint, fleabite to rim.
