James Montgomery Flagg (American, 1877-1960)

Lot of Sixteen Drawings of Femme Fatales, including In Time of Peace, Spring is Here, The Ruling Passion, The Blues Singer, October Mom, Half and Half, Nonchalance,
Dynamite, and That's Life!, c. 1940

Most initialed or signed "J.M.F.", "Jimmy" and "JAMES MONTGOMERY FLAGG" l.r. or l.l., several inscribed and dedicated to "Maggie".
Watercolor, graphite, and pen on paper, sheet sizes to 11 x 8 1/2 in. (27.9 x 21.6 cm),unframed.
Condition: Folds and handling creases, minor paper losses to margins.

N.B. Ten affectionately penned letters to "Maggie" [Mrs. Douglas Humphries] dated between 1938 and 1949 and signed "Jimmy", "Monty" or "Jim" accompany the lot. According to affixed notes the Humphries were friends and advertising associates of Flagg.
Estimate $3,000-5,000

Most with folds and creases. Nicks, tears and losses (predominately to edges). All with toning. Some with scattered foxing, some with staining. Some with burns.
