American School, 19th Century

Portait of Hannah (Sharpe) Cleveland of Pomfret, Connecticut. Unsigned. Subject identified in insription on reverse of the panel. Oil on panel, 23 1/2 x 17 3/4 in., in likely original wooden frame. Condition: Panel cracked along right edge, minor craquelure.

Note: According to genealogical records Hannah Sharpe was born September 12, 1761, at Thompson, Windham, Connecticut, to Gershom and Hannah (Dana) Sharpe. On April 19, 1781, Hannah married Solomon Cleveland.(1754-1823). They resided in Pomfret, Connecticut, and together had six children. Hannah died April 13, 1852, in Pomfret, Connecticut.
