Carved and Polychrome Painted Tobacconist Indian Figure, America, late 19th century, the standing figure carries a quiver of arrows and holds a bunch of tobacco leaves in one hand and a staff in the other, one leg rests against a tree stump, mounted on a wooden base with applied molding, old surface, overall ht. 70 1/2, figure ht. 41, figure wd. 12, base wd. 18 1/2 in.
Old but not original surface, two areas show repair under blacklight: about 1 1/2 x 1 in. area on center of chest below fringed trim on tunic, 2 in. x 1 1/2 in. area on top section of fingers on hand holding tobacco leaves, shrinkage and joinery cracks, the base has several losses on the edges.
