Portrait of a Young Woman Holding a Red Book. Unsigned. Watercolor and gouache heightened with gum arabic on thin card, c. 1840, depicting the woman wearing a black dress gold beaded necklace and a brooch, 6 x 5 in., in a later molded wood frame. Condition: Toning, foxing.
Estimate $1,000-1,500

Old masking tape adheres card to mat on three edges on reverse, no inscription appears below mat, not laid down.
