View of St. John's Church in the City of Washington. Titled inscription below: "A Northerly View of St. John's Church in the City of Washington; taken by W. Banton in his Camera Obscura, May 18th 1818. Having in view the House of Commodore Porter Distant 2 1/2 Miles." Watercolor and ink on paper, sight size 14 3/4 x 18 1/4 in., in a contemporary molded wood frame. Condition: Crease along rt. edge, small tear c.r. scattered foxing, minor light stains.
