Needlework Sampler "Wrought by Ann Priscilla Watson aged 11 yrs. 1825," executed in silk threads on a linen ground with rows of alphabets above a verse "While varying shades/The pleasing task beguiles/My friends reward me /With approving smiles," the lower register depicting a a house beside a river, enclosed on three sides with a border of morning glories, roses and violets, 18 1/4 x 17 in., in a molded wood frame.
Estimate $1,000-1,500

Some fading has occurred but colors are still pretty good, and the condition of the threads and background is very good. The sampler was glued around edges to a piece of cardboard but is easily removed. Has a wood panel backboard with chamfered edges.
