Attributed to John Ritto Penniman (Massachusetts, 1782-1841)

Family Group. Unsigned. Watercolor on paper, c. 1830, 8 1/2 x 10 1/2 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Repaired tears, minor toning and foxing.

Provenance: Sold as part of the cataloged exhibit of the Barry Cohen Collection, published by David Schorsch and Americah Hurrah, New York, 1990, which included the following note: "A related portrait depicting Ann Elizabeth Crehore of Milton, Massachusetts, signed by John Ritto Penniman and dated 1836, is illustrated in Nina Fletcher Little, Little by Little (New York: E.P. Dutton, 1984),p. 154, fig. 205 (color).
