Provenance: A typed history accompanying the box identifies its original owner as Dr. Samuel Fisk Green (1822 - 1884) of Worcester, Massachusetts. Traveling to Ceylon in 1847, he began his practice in Mapepy, Jaffna, where he founded a hospital. His life's work was the translation of Western medical treatises into vernacular Tamil.
