American School, Late 18th Century

Portrait Miniature of George and Martha Washington. Signed "J.T." or "I.T." c.r. Watercolor and gouache on ivory, 3 1/4 x 4 in., in a period walnut veneer frame. Condition: Very good.

Provenance: Beverly, Massachusetts, Historical Society, sold to provide funding for conservation of existing collections and acquisition.

Note: An inscription on a backing paper fragment is inscribed "Miniature on ivory of Gen. Washington and Wife smileing [sic] very true Portraits (signed) "J.T." or "I.T."
