Attributed to Sheldon Peck (Vermont, New York, Illinois, 1797-1868)

Portrait of Sally Adams (b. 1772-c. 1825). Unsigned, sitter identified on a note affixed to the back of the panel. Oil on wood panel, c. 1825, her dark dress is highlighted by her lace cap and yellow beads, 23 x 18 3/4 in., in a replaced frame. Condition: Good; very minor touch-up.

Provenance: The sitter, Sally Adams, is the mother of Hiram Adams and the great grandmother of Helen Adams Snedicon.

panel is poplar, retouch to fill in cracquelure scattered in several spots.
