Pair of Ute Beaded Cloth and Hide Moccasins, c. third quarter 19th century, hard sole forms with wide downturned cuffs, with red trade cloth panels and three framing rows of multicolored geometric designs, lg. 11 in.

Provenance: Purportedly given to one Joseph Abbott of Keene, New Hampshire, by Ute Chief Ouray in token of his friendship and gratitude. Abbott was the W.S. (?) agent under President Lincoln's "Sanitary Commission."
