Attributed to Chester Harding (Massachusetts, 1792-1866)Lot of two: Portraits of Mr. and Mrs. David Stoddard Greenough III of Roxbury, Massachusetts. Unsigned, artist and subjects identified in label and inscriptions on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 36 x 28 in., in late 20th century molded gilt gesso frames. Condition: Both relined with scattered retouch.

Provenance: Purchased directly from the estate of Hamilton and Helen Greenough of Santa Barbara, California, May 30, 1998.
Estimate $4,000-6,000

allover minor spots of scattered retouch, minimal retouch to faces.
Inscription on back of woman reads: Mrs. David Stoddard Greenough II,
(Maria Foster Doane 1793-1843) of Roxbury (Jamaica Plain) Mass. By Chester Harding. (signed) Hamilton P. Greenough, Santa Barbara, California. 1979. The gentleman is similarly inscribed although no birth- death dates.
