Provenance: A private New England collection.

N.B. Leonor Fini was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Following her parents' divorce, she moved to Trieste, Italy, where she was raised by her mother. As a child she was exposed to the rich collections of art in Italian museums and her uncle's library of art books. She began showing her work in exhibitions at the age of seventeen. Her art was steadfastly feminist, often featuring mythical and sensuous women. Although she adopted many elements of Surrealism into her work and frequently exhibited with other Surrealist artists, she rejected the title of Surrealist.
