Description:

Three Japanese Festival Dolls, mid to late 19th century, with finely-carved and painted heads, and limbs, glass eyes, and flax wigs, the three traditional figures depicting Warrior Empress Jingu with long black hair, painted at forehead and temples to suggest individual strands, and gilt papier-mache headdress, her Prime Minister, Takenouchi, with expressively-carved head, white hair, eyebrows and beard, holding the newborn Imperial son, Shoki the Demon-Queller, with painted eyes and swaddled in silk, all three in original rich silk brocade costumes, the Prime Minister and Empress with gilt-metal embellishment and papier-mache armor, seated approx. 19 in.
