N.B. Son of the painter Jozef Israels, Isaac was interested in art and travel from an early age. From his father he was exposed to the painterly style of The Hague School. He studied and spent much of his early career in Amsterdam, recording the lives and leisure of its residents. From 1903 to 1923 he traveled extensively in London and Paris, where he continued to assimilate the loose brushwork and bright palette of Impressionism into his views of modern life.
