Pair of Fine Venetian Carved and Ebonized Hall Figures of an Elegant Devil and his C Consort, late 19th century, carved signature "F. Toso, Venezia" on male figure's coat hem, each dressed in fanciful 19th century attire, he with hoof feet, she with slippered feet, each on a stylized carpet style base, hts. 67 1/2 and 69 in.

Provenance: From the Collection of the Fuller Museum of Art, Brockton, Massachusetts. Museum records show that Massachusetts Governor Oliver Ames (1831-1895) purchased the figures in Europe in the 19th century. The figures remained in the Ames family, until they were placed on long term loan to the Fuller Museum in 1975, and then gifted to the Museum in 1979.
