Rare School's Compendium of Planetarium, Tellurium and Globe by Holbrook & Co., Berea, Ohio, the planetarium with geared hand-cranked mechanism rotating earth with orbiting moon, and seven planets with their satellites, around 5-inch painted plaster sun ball, on baluster-turned walnut base with lacquered-brass gear-housing, ht. 17 x lg. 21 in.; tellurium with green-painted wood earth on printed paper plane illustrating Line of Apsides running from Perigee to Apogee, a periphery-mounted wheel with brass arm supporting orbiting moon, on tapering walnut limb with triple pulleys (for earth, moon and plate) and screw-thread for adjusting string tension, rotating around sun ball (single sun interchangeable with planetarium) and horizon circle demonstrating the days and signs of the Zodiacal calendar, the Equinoxes, and Solstices, with maker's credit Holbrook & Co., Berea, Ohio, ht. with sun 14 x lg. 25 in.; a 5-inch terrestrial globe with cartouche Holbrook & Co., Berea, Ohio, made up of twelve printed gores and two polar calottes on plaster sphere, continents and territories outlined but uncolored, major mountains, deserts and rivers labeled, cities unlabeled, Canada labeled as Russian America, British America and Canada, America labeled with states California and Texas (only),Equatorial divided but unlabeled, the Ecliptic marked with broken line, on wire mount to baluster-turned maple base; seventeen paper-covered geometric solids, parallelepipeds, spheres, pyramids, and triangular prisms, many with explanation labels; a turned maple column, probably originally from a celestial globe; all stowing in apparently original painted wood case.
