N.B. Donald De Lue's figurative sculptures, often symbolic or mythological, reveal his mastery of human anatomy. This figure of Jason, with one hand planting a tooth and the other raised in a symbol of triumph over war, refers to the myth of Jason and Cadmus planting the dragon's teeth to obtain the Golden Fleece. Stylistically, this work has a Kouros-type head, an archaic reference that De Lue used frequently in the 1930s and 40s.(1)
