Needlework Sampler, "Sally Ann Tindall 1825," probably Quaker, Chester County, Pennsylvania or Burlington County, New Jersey, the sampler worked in silk threads on a linen ground centered with an undulating leafy oval reserve stitched with a verse about friendship, flowers and Sally's signature and date, the oval surrounded by three geometric medallions, flowers, baskets, and birds, (toning, moisture stains), 16 1/2 x 17 1/4 in., in a later molded mahogany frame.
Literature: Similar design elements such as the undulating oval reserve and geometric medallions can be found in other needlework done by Quaker girls in the Chester County, Pennsylvania, and Burlington County, New Jersey area academies, see Ring, Betty, Girlhood Embroidery, Vol. II, Alfred A. Knopf, New York.
