Shaker Large Covered Oval Box with Label, attributed to David Meacham Jr., New Lebanon , New York, second quarter 19th century, the box with pine top and bottom with bent maple sides joined by four fingers facing left, secured with copper tacks, natural light brown finish, the side with applied printed paper label "HEAL ALL/ Prunella Vulgaris/D.M./New Lebanon, N.Y.," (minor old repair),ht. 4 7/8, 8 1/8 x 12 1/8 in.
Note: According to June Sprigg in Shaker Design, David Meacham Jr. (1776-1847) had been in charge of making the oval storage boxes in New Lebanon, New York from 1821until 1844. For reference see p. 100.
