Polychrome Painted Wooden Taxidermist Trade Sign, America, late 19th century, rectangular panel with applied molding, gilt and red lettering "GEO. BROWNE.TAXIDERMIST BIRDS ANIMALS PRESERVED TO ORDER." ornamented with two parrots perched on a leafy branch on a dark red ground with green and light red striped borders, black painted molding, the reverse with a shield-shaped reserve with a scene of an eyrie with an eagle feeding her young, on a dark green field with gilt scrolled foliate motifs in the corners, and green and gilt striping, (background retouch),21 x 18 1/2 in.
