Nantucket Basket Purse, made by Jose Formoso Reyes, Nantucket, Massachusetts, 1973, oval form with a carved ivory shell motif affixed to the lid, ivory latch and handle pegs, securing swing handle, the base inscribed "MADE IN NANTUCKET JOSE FORMOSO REYES 1973", ht. with handle down 7, dia. 10 1/2 in.

Note: Jose Reyes (1902-1980) was the first Nantucket basketmaker to make a woman's purse, around 1948.
