Portrait of a Little Girl in White.
Unsigned. Oil on canvas, c. 1835, depicting the brown-haired child wearing a white dress, lace-trimmed white pantalettes, and black shoes, in one hand she holds a pink rose, standing on a green and red diamond-patterned floor, 36 x 25 1/2 in., in period ogee wood frame. Condition: Relined, minor retouch.

Note: Erastus Salisbury Field, who was born in Leverett, Massachusetts, a hill town in the Connecticut River Valley, painted rural society from the 1820s through mid-1850s in Massachusetts, Connecticut, southern Vermont, and eastern New York. In 1824 Field studied with Samuel F.B. Morse in New York City.
