Description:

Queen Anne Red-painted Birch Tall Clock, Benjamin Willard, Lexington, Massachusetts, c. 1766-71, the dome top hood with gilded ball and spire finials, arched and glazed hood door flanked by free-standing columns, tombstone-shaped waist door and low bracket feet all housing an eight day, brass time and strike movement on a dovetailed seating board, and engraved, silvered sheet brass dial with moon's age dial in the arch and signed Benja. Willard, Lexington, (imperfections), ht. 89 in.

Benjamin Willard tall clocks marked Lexington are exceedingly rare and document Willard's brief time with the Mulliken family of clock makers. See Robinson and Burt The Willard House and Clock Museum and the Willard Family of Clock Makers, pages 19-21.
