Anglo/American School, 18th Century
Portrait Miniature of a Woman. Unsigned, purportedly depicting Lady Juliana Penn,the subject identified in an inscription on an envelope containing the portrait. Watercolor on ivory, 3 1/8 x 2 1/4 in., in an oval gold pendant case, the reverse glazed compartment filled with locks of plaited hair. Condition: Very good.
Note: Lady Juliana Penn (1729-1801),nee Juliana Fermore was the fourth daughter of Thomas, first Earl of Pomfret. She married Thomas Penn (1702-1775),in 1751. Thomas Penn was the fifth son of William Penn who founded the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
